SOLD OUT – The Inns of Court – with Oldie Editor and barrister Harry Mount, Monday 8th April 2019

Courses | November 2019

Lawyers have worked in this enchanted corner of London since the 14th century. And now you can see the hidden corners of the four Inns of Court – Gray’s Inn, Lincoln’s Inn, Middle Temple and Inner Temple – in the company of Harry Mount, architectural historian, barrister and Editor of The Oldie. You will see the hushed terraces of barristers’ 18th-century chambers, the Inns’ chapels, the 17th-century Middle Temple Gateway and Inner Temple Garden – home to the flowerbeds where the red and white roses signifying the sides in the Wars of the Roses were plucked. Lunch with wine is in Middle Temple Hall, London’s greatest Elizabethan building, where Twelfth Night was first performed. We finish with a tour of the Temple Church, with its round, 12th-century nave, lined with the effigies of the Knights Templar and based on Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre, home to Christ’s tomb.
